FACILITIES AND STUDENT LIFE AT ULSTER

All Ulster University students are members of the Students' Union (UUSU)- a hub for social events, entertainment, trips and activities.

The Sports Union is part of UUSU and coordinates over 65 sports clubs across the campuses offering a range of activities from archery to volleyball etc. UUSU represents the student population on all University committees, ensuring the student voice is heard; giving feedback on teaching and facilities.

Ulster University a leading higher education institution in the United Kingdom, renowned in numerous fields. The Law School is well known for innovative curriculum and research.

The Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) partnered LL.B. programme mirrors the curriculum of Ulster in the first two years in Sri Lanka. Thereafter, students will transfer to UK. This is unique to Sri Lankan students who aspire to acquire a high-quality UK law degree which is cost-saving and economical. During the first two years, students will get exposure to local statutory and case law developments. The course design enables students to gain the best of local and international education, from the safety of Sri Lanka.

Lectures at NCHS will be delivered by local experts, complemented occasionally by lectures from visiting staff of Ulster.

The partnership will open new horizons for the study of law in Sri Lanka.

Students can start their LLB at NCHS, and then have the opportunity to either transfer to UK or complete their studies in Sri Lanka. Mrs.Galusha Wirithamulla - Attorney-at-Law

LL.B (Hons.) (Colombo), M.A. in International Relations (Colombo)

Galusha Wirithamulla obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with Honours from the University of Colombo in 2012 and subsequently took oaths as an Attorney-at-Law. She is also the recipient of the Walter & Judith Pinto Memorial Gold Medal and Scholarship in Public International Law for the year 2011. She holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from University of Colombo. During her time as an undergraduate she represented the University in many international debating and moot competitions, including the advanced rounds of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Competition. She has also been awarded the best researcher prize at the 5th Henry Dunant Memorial Regional Moot Court Competition.

Galusha has research interests in public law and public policy including in the areas of Constitutional Law, Public International Law and International Relations. She has previously worked at United Nations Development Programme in the projects supporting democratic governance and parliamentary development in Sri Lanka.

Mrs.Charindri Jayarathna

LL.M (Distinction) Staffordshire, LL.B (Hons) Staffordshire, Attorney-at-Law & Notary Public Commissioner of Oaths, Company Secretary

Charindri Jayarathna is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and is a corporate lawyer, specializing in commercial contracts. She has a diversified background acting as a litigator, an in-house counsel, a compliance officer and a company secretary. Charindri is a British LL.B (Hons) holder, a batch topper at Sri Lanka Law College and has a LL.M with Distinction from Staffordshire University, UK.

Her current research interests vary from Company Law, Contract Law, Information Technology Law and Corporate Governance. Charindri is, at present, a visiting lecturer and an examiner at NCHS for Contract Law and the Law of Tort.

Students after A/Ls can join the first year of the LLB.
Merit based scholarships are available to students on completion of OLs and ALs. Furthermore, all students are entitled to a scholarship of 2000 pounds for the final year
It is a world renowned program with international acceptance. Students can commence the program at NCHS, Sri Lanka and thereafter transfer to Ireland. While in Ireland, students are eligible to work part time for 20 hours per week.
If in Sri Lanka, students must complete the attorney –at –law examination, after which they can practise as lawyers. Other career options include working in law firms, legal counsels and even been legal advisors at companies including banks.
